Hello, long time no see. Anyway, I've been interested in Enneagram lately, and I was curious if any of the folks who claim to be able to guess EType from a video would weigh in on my own type. This is mostly out of curiosity, since I've tried looking at collections of Enneagram videos and I can only compare CT now d:

Obviously I'm not looking for anything rigorous or conclusive, I just think this is fun and I wonder if my EType can be guessed like my CT was.
Good luck!
Hi,
I watched your video. As far as I know, there is no system for identifying Enneagram types based on facial expressions. For that reason, I focused on the content of your answers. My overall impression is that you probably are a type 5 or have a 5-wing (4w5, 6w5). Here's three reasons why:
1. Your answer about which fruit you would choose to be was very knowledgeable, especially for a subject (coconuts) that you probably don't think much about day to day. Type 5s have the tendency to "hoard" information because they feel that rationalizing everything makes life safer/more manageable. So, my guess is that we see that kind of thirst for understanding here. 2. Your emphasis on humility in a friend--particularly admitting that they don't know everything--possibly reflects a well-develop self-awareness of your own need for knowledge and competency. Perhaps you admire people whom can admit to something that you "struggle" withβ¦or see those people as being emotionally/spirituality enlightened 3. When you talked about not liking people who are "capricious" and don't give reasons for their actions, that again suggests you have a strong need to rationalize things in order to feel secure in the world. Again, that's the core motivation for type 5.
I think you're more likely to be a 5w4 than 5w6 just because you seem very self-aware and certain about your own thoughts. Six is the type that's least in touch with their own ability to make decisions, so if you were more influenced by that type, I think there would have been more referencing to specific sources of information β¦.things that would make you feel more secure about your ability to reason/believe something. Plus, the scarf wrapped around your neck while indoors added a lot of dramatic flairβ¦very type Four~!
Wow, I haven't checked back here in a while. I wonder why I didn't receive an email notification... ahwell, finally a response!
Yeah, anything Enneagrammatic I see using facial cues seems hollow to me. Stuff like "Self-pres variants have more serious expressions" is weird to me. There are folks who have a sort of general "how a person carries themselves" angle on it, but it's really subjective and not really something that can be taught, in my experience.
At any rate (since I don't imagine a reason to hold off on this [seriously, two months for one reply and then another month before I find it]), as far as I know you're spot on. What a tired cliche I am, the INTP TiNe 5w4 d:
5w6 (and 6w5) always seemed to me like the type to enjoy citations. I've met people that find it therapeutic to just stop thinking about a paper and type away at sources and formatting. I hate it. My gut reaction is that if an idea isn't good enough to stand on its own, it shouldn't be in a paper. I can understand it on the basis of preventing plagiarism, but I instinctively feel capable of (and inclined toward) just making an idea that makes good sense and gets people to think. To me it feels like I'm a legitimate customer suffering from excessive antipiracy software. "That's a nice idea there... where'd you get it?" is not the kind of environment I want to study in. I can doubt myself very easily, but never really enough to take action on it. I always just default to figuring it out myself with a second or third opinion here and there.
It's funny to me that my penchant for scarfery hints at Four. I've never been a flashy dresser (if I don't catch attention, I don't have to talk to as many people!), but I do have moments where I just... really like things. Scarves are one of those. You never know how cold your neck is until you've taken to wearing scarves, and now I have more than I'll ever actually use. To be fair, it was cold in the house at that point.
I don't know if you're into tritype, but if you are, do you have a guess at my Gut and Image fixes?

Zweilous, yo! Just to shoot off a quick thought/clarification on 5w6's (possessing that fix myself), I wouldn't say that they're the type to enjoy citations, necessarily. I certainly don't anyway and could actually see that being more of a Je thing, actually. As far as I understand it, the 5w6 is about troubleshooting, error-proofing, and, as such, they are painstakingly comprehensive. This could lead to behavior such as rigorous citation, but, if so, it's born out of anxiety of their reader's potential criticism/misunderstanding ("if I don't do this, I'm sure this shit will come down on me"), and definitely not enjoyment.
Come to think of it, I have read about either 5w6's or maybe just 6's overall seeking shelter in citing others (even in conversation) and the authority that that person carries rather than relying on their own, which the 6 depreciates. Just realized you might be getting at this aspect of things. Hmm. Can't comment on that too much other than to say that when I quote someone, it's out of giving credit where credit is due. I might have been brought by the moment to express a given sentiment regardless of all the utterances to have occurred prior in history, but if someone else said it famously first (and most likely in the most concise terms possible at that), I'm certainly not going to act like I've struck gold; if the phrase fits, then in it goes with all due credit acknowledged, simple as that. But this might be the product of my 1 fix and it's sense of propriety rather than anything 5 or 6 related.
Anyway! I think a clear cut way to really dig into the differences between the 5w6 and 5w4 is the realm of aesthetics (which can probably be most closely aligned with interests of the 4); just looking at dress, the 5w6 will seek that which is understated, safe, and, if not beyond reproach (which is more likely the the motivation of the 1), won't leave them feeling "out there" or exposed; the 5w4 is the more likely to express something specific about them self through their dress rather than conceal; and while it might still be subdued, so too will it prove more stimulating or even provocative, and most certainly personal. The 5w6 might hide in convention, and the 5w4 might eschew or even buck convention, but odds are neither will be trendy.
That said, all of a person's other fixes also factor in to dress, just like they do everything. It's from this that inner conflict is born.
I should maybe post some picture examples, but I'd probably just expose myself to rampant criticism. :)

I used to dress more conservatively, like when I was really young, but nowadays I just like colors I like and am prone to like nerdy shirts and such.
All this plays into being so-first, I think. Once I wore an oversized Nyan Cat t-shirt into a grocery store, and then a little girl pointed and said "Look, Mommy! It's that rainbow cat, there on that man's shirt!" As soon as I got home I tucked it away out of shame, and now I don't even sleep in it anymore.
Do you have any typing and trifix thoughts on mah video, while you're here?
In that case, do you have any thoughts on my sister's?
I senses some 3-ishness and 1-ishness from her... and I thought maybe both these types could be in the tritype (maybe leading with 3? I am not sure). For the head-fix either 7 or 5, I believe not 6. I rely a good deal on energetic cues and visual cues presented by The Fauvres to help typing in the enneagrams, but these things haven't beem presented systematically anywhere publicly as far as I know.

Very interesting. She identifies as 1w2, and she's definitely 1 and 3 in the first two. If her headfix isn't 6 it's 7. She's definitely not got 5.
Where could I find what they do have? Is it just on The Institute's site, or is it in one of their paid-for packets?
