Basically seems like fucked up P. Like way out in the N.
(Your statement just brought this image to mind )
Cool study! I dunno if I'm interpreting their results correctly, but it sounds like data overload prevents the brain from having enough bandwidth to appropriately respond to objective reality.. is that right?
This suggests that being in a state of high cognitive load "sets" the motor system to be imperturbable to distracting motor influences.
^ I think maybe with schizophrenia, there is a breakthrough of what would normally be unconscious content into awareness. Yeah, basically N's unchecked associations.. tons of data that would normally not muck up conscious perception. If data overload inhibits the motor cortex, as the study seems to suggest, this might explain why the catatonic symptoms of psychosis occur. Just one thought..
What were your ideas though? It sounds like you may be thinking along the same lines as I've been lately about the underlying causality of things like schizophrenia
Yes, agreed. Things that should be unconscious should stay unconscious! There also seems to be a timing issue - literal daydreaming. And yeah, the data overload can inhibit perception of object affordances (and vice versa, actually!).
I should go to bed. I just went on a download binge before my friend's journal access expires.
This thread is one of the most fascinating things I've read in a long, long time. The suggestion that perhaps the unconscious takes over, complete with the functions it burries, overruning consciousness, is very intriguing!
“If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.”
I am curious if there is also a vultology of conditions like psychopathy, narcissism (imagine the potential of gaining the ability to possibly escape one of these terrifying people!)
I am also thinking about ADHD....If we can type ADHDers using CTVC and find correlations to high or imbalanced use of Pe and/or 'N' functions, we can start to build the groundwork for a case for another (more positive) label for ADHD, help in finding better tailormade solutions for people who are having a really hard time, perhaps in understanding why solutions like medication, meditation, behavioral strategies work on some people and not others.
I'm positive I've become more Ne as my working memory has diminished. I have a few reasons I think this might be, but I've gotta get to work. If I ever pursue the avenue of further, I'll update on here.

Are you suggesting that as our Si declines our Ne steps up?
I'm curious if you all have examined the vultology of people with PTSD since there's often an undercurrent of disgust that remains with trauma. Could that possibly create additional faux Fi disgust and resting tension signals in Fe/Ti users?
Hey crymsonfox - When I performed my initial observations, I looked at a number of people with different mental illnesses. Severe depression, bi-polar and schizophrenia all seemed to have the flat affect in common, while anxiety disorders such as OCD and PTSD could also produce flat affect when severe, but sometimes just appeared as a look of worry that somewhat mimics an Si scowl. Mild illness of any sort doesn't tend to show up on the face nor interfere with vultology.
I've seen it where conditions of chronic anger/contempt produce the kind of signal you're describing; a constant sneering expression that does kind of look like Fi tension. I haven't seen this specifically related to PTSD, although individuals whose disorder relates strongly to early tensions with parents or other social problems tend to develop contempt toward society.
