Modulation is the use of any non-primary function. Even when a person has conscious use of all four functions, the energetic toll for using lower functions will remain relatively the same.
If done right, the toll is sufficient to handle and can lead to fruitful and productive use of lower functions. However, it's also possible to overmodulate your system. A bit like overclocking a CPU and burning it out. This thread is dedicated to exploring the topic of overusing one's lower functions.. lets see what comes out!
NeTi-Fe Robert Bryson Hall "Logic"
He almost looks FeSi-Ne in this video (cuz of the modulation) but he's definitely NeTi. But I wanted to use this video since he describes the experience:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Double Extroversion and Mania
I'm still gathering data on this but from what I can tell, the dependence on both extroverted processes, at the repression of both introverted processes, leads to an effect I can only describe as "mania" where Pe's momentum endlessly augments Je's production and there is no counterbalance from inner reflection (Ji) or precedent precaution (Pi). This leads to a reckless, "always on" non-stop mode where a person's in a 1:1 relationship with the environment. The environmental happenings become a direct interface and at its worse every thought that the person has is verbalized in real time, and the person loses the capacity to be little more than a direct response to the outer.
Backlash from Higher Functions?
For Logic, after being so attached to the world in a manic way, suddenly a forced detachment transpires which makes him feel like nothing is real, that he's an outsider looking at himself and he escapes the present moment.
Again this is just a hypothesis but I would postulate that Logic's experience of "derealization" is a lashback effect of his higher Ti; being forcefully pulled into conscious consideration after being repressed by tertiary Fe. And so Ti's quality of detachment becomes heightened in a way proportional to the severity of the mania it needs to counterbalance. Logic describes this feeling as weird, but ultimately something harmless to him.
This seems an appropriate description considering higher Ti would be normal to him, and his psyche is trying to forcefully achieve a more natural mode of operation.
Have you guys seen anything similar with other functions being used beyond their limit?
Maybe in yourself or others? I'm wondering if this effect is real in other situations too
(..as this is just a brainstorm thread. what're your thoughts? )
"...When I feel weird, or I feel out of my body, I've learned to accept it. And I've learned what it really is. So anybody out there who's experiencing derealization -- which is where you almost feel separated from your body or out of your mind or like you're a little person just watching like "oh my god did I really pick up that phone right now?". It's almost like you're hyper-analyzing the reality around you..."
"This is me working on films. A book. Television stuff. Shit I can't even talk about. Like being a husband, a father to my two little puppy dogs, a friend, an artist, doing meet and greets, meeting a hundred people a show. I did over a hundred... and damn near 30 shows last year (~130). You're just go and go and go and go..."
