A comparison of functions and playing style in chess

I've been dabbling in the relevance of functions when it comes to playing style, specifically in chess. Here I mean by style "a preference/natural tendency to lean towards certain ways of playing". In most sports/competitive activities you'll find that the players have a certain style of playing, for instance, in chess there is the positional player (who is good at evaluating positions in chess, defensive play, slow-but-steady type of play, very hard to defeat), and tactical play (more risky, aggressive, attacking, complex and tactical blows). Often, these styles are not so much an individual thing, instead you'll see players from different times and places can adapt very similar styles to each other..

I'm by no means any expert in chess, but I think chess is a good place to start making these kinds of comparisons, since it's such a cerebral activity. There is a greater chance of finding correlations with the functions here than in most other competitive activity, since body structure/physicality might affect style in sports, and that's probably not so relevant to the functions. Of course, it might be that style in chess is mostly a product "nurture"-factors, but there is the possibility that nature also plays a part here, and there's a chance that the functions do indeed play a part... let's find out!

Now, as for the comparisons. Kasparov and Carlsen have already been typed as NiTe and SiTe respectively (roughly). They are representatives of the two main "styles" of chess, Kasparov being the tactical player and Carlsen being more the positional player. It's tempting to make speculations already now, but I think some more samples first would be best.
