So I've been thinking off and on about how the type of Judgment one uses relates to how an individual interacts with religion/spirituality. Especially how this relates to "objective ethics" and "subjective ethics".
I've heard it said that TiFe tends to be a more religious pair because it wants to find "the rules", so to speak, for how people objectively "should" act. FiTe, on the other hand, being more personal in values prefers to be more private with beliefs.
I'm from a religious family, and I've noticed a much subtler trend, one that has borne out in my own family, as well as what I see in politics and people at large.
I've noticed that while Fe-users are fairly inclined to share personal values with those around them, Fi users are not. This varies somewhat (NiSe users are also somewhat less likely to want to adopt others' views while NeSi constantly second guesses and treats all paths as legit), but I've found that, at least in Alphas, Fe users want to like the same things as their friends.
I think we all want people we can relate to, but I think Fe (moreso than Fi) wants to find new ways it can relate to others. It's constantly seeking better rapport. Fi, definitely pronounced in PiTe, feels less inclined to do that. They like what they like, and it's weird and clingy for others to expect preferences to match theirs retroactively.
NiTe in particular are somewhat difficult for me to argue with off the cuff, because they are under no inclination to be convinced by what I say just because I'm their friend. I, by contrast, have to constantly fight being convinced by everyone I talk to unless I know for absolute certain that I'm correct. Especially by NiTe, they're just so darn confident d:
But I think the opposite occurs with religious beliefs- the TiFe users I know (myself included) are much more live-and-let-live about their beliefs, preferring not to rock the boat by bringing up something that they know others will disagree with. FiTe users are much more evangelistic in nature when it comes to those core Fi beliefs. Erifrail touched on this once talking about Te-leads sometimes taking on the cause-fighter role, Te enacting on behalf of Fi. There's a much stronger "stand up for what I believe in" ethic with FiTe than TiFe, which feels more "No religion or politics at the table, please".
Tl;dr- I've noticed that Fe wants to share favorite movies but keep quiet about most controversial beliefs, Fi doesn't care how much you love Ponyo, you need to hear about the Lord Buddha Spaghetti Aliens.
I also think Enneagram plays a big role here. 7s would naturally avoid the heavier topics and 5s would never feel sure enough about religion to argue definitively, while 1 knows The Right Way (tm) for certain and 4 doesn't need to hear out contrary personal opinions. There's a lot of sensitivity wound up in these kinds of beliefs, so there are very likely many layers of psychology defending them from the outside world.
You guys have any thoughts on Fe/Fi and sharing beliefs vs. sharing preferences?
