We recently typed the musician Heather Nova as TiNe. However, upon further scrutiny, it has become apparent that she is most likely SiFe. Something I've noticed about SiFe females in general (and I think Erifrail may have mentioned this) is that they tend to express more Ne in both their psychology and their vultological signals than their male counterparts. This is important to take into consideration when trying to differentiate between Ji and Pi in a type that uses Si/Ne. Heather seems to be an example of this phenomenon of emphasized Ne, as her eyes toggle more than what we might expect for an Si-lead, and she expresses an affinity for travel and exploration that doesn't seem weighted down by Si's disposition toward consistency. Her movements aren't quick and spontaneous as would be expected for a JiNe type, though, and her psychology is dominated by the operation of Si.
In this video we immediately see a permanent Si slanting toward the edges of her eyes and upward corrugation of her eyebrows. Her eyes toggle, but in general have a dull quality about them. Her head follows the direction of her eyes, like at 0:13, 0:40, 0:48, 1:14 etc.
There are signs in her face that that indicate Fe>Ti. There's a tension at the sides of her mouth that doesn't neutralize after she finishes articulating at times like 0:20, and a visible diagonal tension parallel with the zygomaticus muscles that is present throughout much of the video, as seen in the right-hand image below:
She has a very relaxed demeanor; she's leaning back into her chair, with her shoulders down. Her articulation comes from this loose posture and moves through her body in a viscous way. Her hand movements are demonstrative in a way characteristic of Fe, and accentuate the emotional pushes in her speech. However, we don't see the very particular puppeteer hands which are usually present in Ti-leads. Her movements are somewhat viscous, and more broad, sweeping, and 'karate-chop' like, with her fingers not being particularly engaged in her articulation. A good example of this can be seen starting at 2:28.
In the left-hand image below, we see the relaxed basis of her articulation as well as a classic Si stare with dulled eyes and a confused expression:
Her psychology very much aligns with the signals which indicate SiFe as her type. She makes very general, open-ended conclusions which are based more on felt affinities and the impression of semantical experiences than they are on axiomatic principles. Her thoughts follow a very semantic and visceral pattern; she often relays the causality of an experience (Si ramble), or generally describes an emotional inclination as an explanation for why she did something. Most of her deductions revolve around loose associations between emotionally/socially relevant topics.
Some good examples of her psychology can be seen in this video:
Some quotes that stand out as examples Si/Ne leading the causality of thought, with Fe's collaboration:
'Always follow your instinct on something. You know, we all have this inner knowing and it's really good to listen to that inner knowing.' (Intuition as the basis for action, without analysis of the judgement functions.)
'I don't know why, you know, I don't always know why I like something. But I like the way it came out, I liked that it was.. uh, that I had had an experience that inspired me that was new.' (Visceral emotional resonance as motivator without critical analysis of causal implications. Also, using the 'new experience' as validation for her direction.)
'You know I'd gone to Pompeii.. to take my son there for a historical visit, but then I was so surprised at how moved I was by thinking about the lives of the people, um you know, buried down, and how archeologists dig down and find all these parts of people's lives, and how in a way, it's so personal, you find one little comb and you think that, god, that was someone's really personal posession and it represented moments in their life. And so I started thinking about also how song writers in a way are archaeologists because we dig down below the surface, and um, and I was needing to do that. We need to do that in relationships a lot, I think, go below the surface and find out what's down there and find out what's still alive.' (Associative thinking as basis for conclusion - 'song writers are like archaeologists'. Motivated toward action by abstract association, whereby the hypothetical experience of others is related to empathetically; Ne/Si & Fe > Ti).
'And there I was with just nothing, no communication, just with my suitcase, and it was kind of getting dark, and I was thinking 'so, what do I do now?' So I actually knocked on some doors and said 'do you know this bed and breakfast?' And as I'm feeling a little bit panicky, I'm also feeling like I'm in this incredible movie set or dream, because Charleston's very beautiful like the houses and the streets, and the huge oak trees. So eventually I found the place, but it was an interesting.. it's kind of, there's something very otherworldly about that city, and it's also a great city to walk in, and that's what I like to do when I'm in new places, just walk everywhere.' (Classic Si ramble. Attention dominated by the perceptual recall of Si. No judgement about the causality of the situation, the point is to relay the experience. Explanation of wanting to walk everywhere in a new place = strong influence of perception, especially Explorer process.)
From the evidence, I think we can be relatively confident about her type being SiFe, and not TiNe.
