I cast Animate Dead!
On the topic of what to call the quadras, I thought about possibly naming them after the four Greek humors. If this were the case, the merry and judicious Alphas would be Sanguine, the serious and judicious Betas would be Phlegmatic, the serious and decisive Gammas would be Melancholic, and the merry and decisive Deltas would be Choleric. It's not a perfect correspondence, but it's a nice way of giving a nod to older attempts at typing, and it's still less full of horseshit than Keirsey.

Alphas - merry and judicious - Sanguine - In our distant past, the sanguine members of the pack might have played a supportive, encouraging, social role. They would have been the glue that kept the group together.
Betas - merry and decisive - Choleric - In our distant ancestors, the choleric members of the pack would be the alphas, the leaders. They would command their subordinates, and assert their dominance using force. If challenged, they would respond by getting angry, larger, in order to intimidate and to prove that THEY were the strongest, the most fit to lead.
Gammas - serious and decisive - Melancholic - In our distant ancestors, the melancholic members of a pack may have been the analysts, the information gatherers. They scouted for potential danger, or for food, and reported back to the pack leader. The more accurate their findings were, the better; this led to a trend towards perfectionism, as the 'analysts' closer to perfection survived better than those that made sloppy mistakes.
Deltas - serious and judicious - Phlegmatic - In our distant past, the phlegmatic members of a pack might have been the obedient followers who'd get much of the actual work done at the command of their superiors. They may not stand out, but without them, nothing would work.
This is way too oversimplified, but yeah, I can see a slight correspondence.
I think you reversed Beta and Delta. Betas are the serious and judicious ones and Delta the merry and decisive. Otherwise, there's something true to their descriptions, though a bit caricatured.

Nope, fangoriousfae reversed them. According to Socionics:
- Beta quadra have mature perception and childish judgment (Decisive and Merry);
- Delta quadra have childish perception and mature judgment (Judicious and Serious);
Ti/Fe = Judicious Te/Fi = Decisive ~~~~~~~~~ Ne/Si = Merry Ni/Se = Serious

Calin Ah yes, it's Erifrail who rephrased it then... It depends if you consider that "decisive" applies more to Te/Fi or Ni/Se, and "merry" to Ne/Si or Ti/Fe. It's just a semantic debate. I would say decisive and serious are a bit similar, same with merry and judicious.
I'm not sure if my English is good enough to perceive the subtleties of these words but I would say "light" vs "heavy" perception applies well to Ne/Si and Se/Ni respectively. And I find "judicious" applies more to Ti/Fe than Ne/Si.

peppergirl You make a good point, but as you said, that's just a semantic debate.
Anyway, no matter how you see it, it's quite clear that due to their function stack, Betas tend to be choleric rather than phlegmatic. I mean, we're commonly seen as narcissistic gurus, cunning politicians, shrewd businessmen, or sociopathic outlaws, lol.
