That might sound weird but now that I've been typed as an Se user, I've realized that the only person who listen to ASMR that I know seem to be Se/Ni users. Do you have any counter-example ? Or have I just discovered the most reliable typing method ever ?
neon , this it the weirdest coincidence ever !!! Yesterday I thought someone should write a post about ASMR and types! I was more thinking about what types would be good ASMRtists but your question is very interesting too.
I love ASMR. But I don't know my type for sure, so this is not very helpful.
I think Si users could also like ASMR because it can remind them of childhood memories and also because a lot of ASMR videos are about showing collections of cute things. A big part of it is showing people your unique collection of brushes and make-up colors before putting the make-up on.
I mean...there are videos like this one :
I hope it's ok to share them...they are public videos. If it's not ok, I will edit the posts !
Also, there is a Ne element to ASMR and even Ti...do you know those robot repairing ASMR videos?? Like this one :
Not that I'm typing Rapunzel, I have no idea what type she is and she does lots of different stuff, I mean just the theme of the videos. Could be a Ne lead though, her eyes are toggling sometimes when she isn't specifically looking to repair the robot (humanoid actually) and she has a big range of videos, most of them with silly stories like a giantess has kidnapped you
I think it's something there for everyone.
The tingles are the most important part and not everyone gets them. But we don't know if this is in any way correlated with types. So, a study should be made. Also, it would be interesting to see which type of ASMR videos different types prefer and if the triggers are different for each type.
Puffs has told us he likes it for relaxation but not tingles. So now I need to ask the OP if the question refers to watching ASMR in general or to the ASMR physical response itself. And if not the later, it would be interesting to find out if there is a type correlation there too.
SeFi. I speak in a whisper because due to an illness, my vocal cords got destroyed and I can no longer speak normally. Every time someone suggests to me that I should make ASMR videos, I want to punch them in the face; luckily for them, this has only happened online so their face was unpunchable.
To my own credit, I sing as much as I can through my whisper, when my health allows. I used to be a professional singer before the illness. But that doesn't mean I want to join some fetishized community of ASMR.
I find the whole field boring and I don't find it seductive at all that people put on a fake gimmick.
I can definitely enjoy ASMR-stimulus. I don't seek out explicit ASMR-stimulus. However, I often listen consciously to the subtle sounds in my environment, and usually achieve a state of inner serenity from that activity.
For the sake of indulgence I wouldn't choose to listen a woman whispering (that preference actually seems like a symptom of mommy issues). I prefer the sound of *things*, such as pouring liquid and tinkly ice cubes.
ASMR is really more of an Si thing. Creating concrete associations, revisiting sensations. The whole... Eww, but AESTHETIC is SEI oriented Si. But as for why Ni/Se might be predisposed to it. It's probably because they need something to actively tap into that state of relaxation, hence the whole Se is drugs meme. As a SEI, I can self inflict ASMR by will. I did it just now even though I'm tensed up and in a noisy environment.

For me, it has nothing to do with passion or authenticity or seductiveness - though I realize the nature af ASMR videos will attract creepos that are just there for creepy reasons. And some asmrtists have gotten really creative with the cinematography and role plays - that’s all fine and well for tangential relaxation, but I’m happy with old school boring ASMR.
I don’t even need people involved. It’s nice to have that personal element sometimes, but that extends beyond the ASMR experience. I’m into it just for the sounds that induce a physical tingle response. Some of my favorite ASMR is ambient sound with no person on camera. MiracleForest is one of my favorites for ambient ASMR, though I do listen to some of the more popular role play artists too.
Incidentally, whispering is not a trigger for me and it actually took me a long time to even tolerate whispering at all. I sought out a soft voice over whispering. Now it doesn’t bother me, but it doesn’t produce tingles either.

I can’t self-inflict ASMR. It’s not about recalling sensations for me or even the nostalgia element that Bera suggested above. I just like the impersonal sensory input. I can very much appreciate the Asmrtists behind it and even come to think of them as friends, but I’m not in it for that either. But I do suspect my mirror touch synesthesia is involved because I watch models getting their hair and make up done for ASMR too. I prefer that to the roleplays where I’m supposed to be the imaginary model. My synesthesia works by witnessing someone else’s experience.
Erebo , I also think it's more of an Si thing because it's not a high stimulus high adrenaline causing experience - it's more relaxing. How can you tap into that state by yourself? You imagine hearing specific sounds or how?
Pine - pouring liquid and sounds of the environment sound like something very nice for someone who is FiNe ! I actually prefer to hear girls speaking sorry if this seems like mommy issues, I never thought of it that way and my mom is not like that at all. Anyway I must also correlate the sounds with some visual effects, so whispering/speaking softly + hand moves in front of the camera (like someone touching your face) are the best for me. Tapping and water sounds or sounds of a candle burning or of someone drawing also work for me but if there are no words for a longer time, I get bored.
Animal , I am sorry, it must have been a horrible experience. I saw something about it on Discord and then I also saw your video. It's very important you are feeling better now and found the love of your life and also you are very talented and have many ways to express it. I think these people might have good intentions but, honestly, I don't think you would be doing ASMR in any case because you have a completely different type of energy and different talents. And this is so obvious I can't see how they can't see it. :/

I really don't like human ASMR. I agree with Animal : it usually feels inauthentic to me. And fake behaviours cannot put me in an enjoyable state. It feels a bit like an "intrusion", if that makes any sense. When somebody has a naturally soothing voice, it's ok. I enjoy the sounds of nature but, well, not so much on a recording device. It feels also too much filtered and framed. If i listened to birds, wind and water on a computer, i would feel a bit sad, i guess. But if we can extend the ASMR's sphere to everything that produces a pleasant sound without considering the formats and devices used, well, ok...
