In real life I've seen a connection with the FiNe and Sailing, could be a coincidence although maybe you guys have seen something similar.
What is sailing ?
Sailing is playing with physics.
The physics behind sailing is very interesting in that sailboats do not need the wind to push from behind in order to move. ... In a similar fashion, when the wind blows against the sails from the side, this creates a force which has a sideways component and a forward component.
The currents are generated from the forces acting upon the water like the earth's rotation, the wind, the temperature and salinity differences and the gravitation of the moon.
The structure and tools of the boat are designed for a purpose to follow the compass in a direction the sailor chooses, the ultimate wet dream of a FiNe isn't it ?
It gives the sailor the ultimate freedom to choose where/when/how ever they want to go, time to let loose of whatever society is trying to restrict them from.
If they fail, they get the feedback immediately so it's kind of essential that you're prepared and can creatively imagine ahead the consequences of specific actions.
You can use a magnetic compass, which uses the Earths magnetic field, to figure out where you are or in which direction you want to go. Compasses always point north. If you don't have a compass, you can use the sun or the stars. ... At night, the North Star in the Northern Hemisphere points north.
In A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking he mentions that without compensating for relativity, GPS devices would be out by miles. www.physicsmyths.org.uk/gps.htm
What if the systems are dysfunctional/unreliable ?
You're the one responsible to figure out WHERE you are, realistically in the WORLD.
