This is meant to be a just-for-fun thread. What cognitive functions lead to what philosophical paradigms and historical movements?
Te
According to the book Psychological Types, by Carl Jung, extroverted thinking has led to the enormous amount of scientific output. He complains that Te led to reductionism, the belief that there can be a single explanation for everything. The example he gave was that of scientists stating that everything is "energy." He also characterized Freud's theory as a Te system (one in which all psychology is reduced to sexual urges).
People on this forum said that Te has connections to "empiricism." I think, and probably a bunch of others think, that it has lead to scientific positivism--the belief that science leads to progress. Te is responsible for evidence-based practice. Thus policies have to backed up with hard evidence of some sort, often proven through the scientific method.
Te is related to a lot of very Western ideas. Erifrail says that Te (and Ne, Si, Fi) are preferred functions of Western civilization.
Fi
Fi, due to the proclivity of unseelie Fi's for dark emotions, may be responsible for emo and also dark anime. Romanticism, Sturm und Drang, may have came from Fi. Fi is a leader in Western poetry, which has a lot of evidence on subjective feeling, individualism, the worship of the self. This stands in contrast with eastern poetry, which may be more of an Ni movement.
Ni
As Erifrail pointed out, Eastern philosophy and mysticism. Eastern philosophy is much less concerned with structured arguments. Eastern philosophy tends to limit what is said, refuses to elaborate, tries to say as little as possible yet what is said is profound, much like NiTe's and NiFe's I know.
Ni also lead to Platonism. Plato is concerned about what is beyond surface appearances. He wanted to get to the essence of things. Think the allegory of the cave.
Ti
Much of Western philosophy. Descartes, with his emphasis on reductionism. Rationalism...
Fe
Church communities, philanthropic, social movements...
Ne
Sorry my brain has got tired. As you see my writing got shorter and shorter for each function.
Also, I wonder which function(s) lead to the hippie movement.
PLEASE HELP ME THINK OF MORE!
