Abstraction of outer information: Se --> Ni vs. pure Ne

I have a general question pertaining to the way that I abstract information (which may or may not relate to what the physical signals of my cognitive type happens to be) and generally learn new material/concepts:
If you are taking in information from the outer world and abstracting it in order to create a greater conceptual understanding of the topic at hand (in other words, learning an inherently abstract topic by taking in the information in a bite-sized way and then afterwards using that to generate a meta-understanding of the larger concept involved....with complete capacity to generate larger connections between that topic and other concepts....
If you did that, would that be more about using
a) Se (by taking in the information) ----> Ni (by internalizing it and learning the larger principles underlying the concept itself)
OR
b) Ne (since you are taking something from the outside and are abstracting it on the fly)
Is the act of abstracting the concept in terms of a learning process (as I described it above) more in line with how Ni operates (as an internalizing process) or Ne (as an a process that seeks to abstract information that is inherently based in the outer world)?
