The SeFi's Expressive Range

I'm getting off topic here, but for the sake of completing the comparison, archetypally...

Ne+Fi - Fairylike (NF)

   

The psychic energy produced by an Ne+Fi hybrid is far more fantastical, whimsical, and spritely. There is less "grit" and "gravity" and more "float" (as Zweilous so eloquently put it in the night_owls once )

Disclaimer: no single piece of art can be used to "type" people and I don't mean to suggest type will determine specific artistic taste. But these are just metaphorical expressions for the differences between the 'qualia' of the Ne+Fi flavor of "NF" and the Ni+Fi flavor of "NF" temperament. At least from how I've seen/witnessed it as produced by people of the self-same types.

I find that when you juxtapose Ni + Fi, you enter this incredibly fluid, impressionistic place.  Everything carries a strong poignancy and deep interpretation.  I feel that I have this inner well of emotional and interpretive fluidity that arises from within me.  It is massively hard to convey these feelings in concrete terms to the outside world because they have a deeply subjective quality and also has a level of depth (of feeling and of impressionism) that almost lacks definition.  So it's tricky, because the meaning is there and is embedded within the psyche, but it is not easy (at least for me) to describe to the outside world because it feels so primordial and so symbolic in general.  Unlike the Te+Se combo that feels so solid and real, the Ni+Fi combo goes in completely the opposite direction and is all about fluidity, malleability, and other such properties that make it just so hard to completely describe or pinpoint what is being felt, visualized, etc. 

I may get into this a bit more in a future post about Gamma....but I figured that since Ni+Fi got brought up, I should chime in on what it's like.


P.S. I wonder if my Alex Grey-based avatar taps into some of the above qualities as well...  It speaks so strongly to what I'm deeply yearning for.

Auburn WOW the fact that you mentioned Madonna and Bjork is amazing, because they have both literally been my absolute favourite artists for years. If I had to pick my top two people who I artistically worship, it would be them. It seems this is why! Also Marilyn Manson, but I know he's FiNe.

I always related to Pe and Intuition so I assumed Ne, but I see the difference here. I never identified with whimsy or naiveté, and I really relate to a deep archetypal poetry rather than that free-flowing association of Ne. I want to bring meaning and beauty to the physical world. Ni has this deep focused seriousness to me in comparison to Fi. Ne with Fi (even as type 4) seems more to me like playful and fun or cute, disconnected from the current environment (like unaware of what's even happening around them right now), much less concerned with manifesting their ideas in the physical world, and much less concerned about sensation and aesthetics. There's just something about Ne that seems "fleeting," like they don't worry about every little thing they say as being something really important, because they can make a million new connections every minute. It feels like I'm more "deliberate" in my worldview.

I also worship music in a way that Ne doms seem to not....in the sense that the sound of it is something sacred. Everyone loves music of course, but music is anthropomorphized, that physical sensation of hearing it become like a person speaking to me. So I won't talk while I'm listening and can barely focus on anything else. My NiFe friend is like this too. I'm not saying all SeFi's will be like me, but just another thought. Again with Ne there's this sense that nothing is sacred because nothing needs to be THAT serious. Maybe I'm wrong here though.

Could you maybe elaborate on the difference you see with other Fi + Ne art, like Lady GaGa or Marilyn Manson?

To me, sensation is art, and every single thing MEANS something (Ni) specific to me (Fi). 

mikesilb I relate a lot to what you're saying, except that my dominant Se usually finds a very verbose or dramatic way of expressing that which cannot be expressed. I need to make the personal emotional soup of Fi+Ni tangible through words or images.

sitbone Interesting! I've actually never found language frustrating, it's always been a strong point. But that's probably because I'm Se-dom rather than Ni-dom.

Sometimes the language I use to describe music or sounds or visual aesthetics is a lot more colourful than my NiFe-Ti friend. When we are at the art gallery, I basically sprint around the room looking for something to spark my interest, and if I find something, I'm not too concerned with what it means. My friend will read everything about the artist and the painting, whereas to me, the context is less important than the experience that it gives me personally.

mikesilb Awesome, also I do love your profile photo. Types with strong Ni in general have always been the most interesting to me, because they help me sit with some of my internal impressions and turn off the Pe switch a bit.

simonemusic (Joseph) , that totally makes sense given everything your strong Ni/Se focus (and how that somewhat mimicked the NeFi energy for you).  If you are interested in being part of the Discord chat, I actually would like to chat with you, because prior to CT, I related so well to being both -NFP types using the MBTI (and like you, I also thought that I had a strong Ne).  I think that you and I have a very similar learning style and of using Ni in general (with you having greater Se support as well), and I think that it would be very cool to chat about this commonality of strong Ni usage (in a way that values making strong cognitive/conceptual connections).
