Hey guys, I'm not entirely sure which forum this belongs it, but I thought it might be helpful to have some general notes/FAQs up for newcomers, as we seem to regularly get some of the same sources of confusion. Plus, I'd like to contribute something and remain a pretty unreliable visual reader and this seems more up my alley. I know a lot of this information is very readily available around the forum, but I know when I first join in a forum, I like having one clear, concise thread that explains what's going on. We do have a lot of information that is a bit scattered so what I was thinking is:
1. Basic what we're doing and why
2. How to get started (submit a video)
3. Common Misconceptions/VR FAQs (what I really think we need the most, as there continues to be some mix-ups due to standard MBTI)
4. Links to important threads
Is there anything here I'm missing that anyone thinks should definitely be included? If no one wants to use this, it's fine but I figured I'll work on writing something up as I do think some newbies will benefit from having a more unified information source. Also, any questions people think should be answered or threads that should be linked? I'm pretty tired now so won't be working much on this tonight, but I'll post up the guide as I write it. I'd really love it if people would write a brief description of some of their own functions, along with some misconceptions (for example, Se and the physical senses) as when I try to write up descriptions for functions I do not have, everything I come up with really sucks.
Today's (likely bad due to said exhaustion) start- We often get complaints from new members that our readings cannot possibly be right. Generally, the member refers back to MBTI and explains why the functions we've assigned do not their personal experience. The important thing to keep in mind is that we do not subscribe to the MBTI definitions of the functions here, as we have found them a poor representation of reality and many members believe traditional MBTI types distorted stereotypes that are a poor representation of reality. For example, many people use their polar functions much more readily than usual MBTI would suggest, as the two sensing and two judging functions cooperate to produce a more complete view of reality and a SeTi could easily be more "Ni" than a FeNi. Just because you do not fit the MBTI description of the function does not mean you do not fit ours.
Here are some of the most common misconceptions we see:

We do not use ennaegram or socionics to type either. You can certainly find some members interested in other typology methods, but, as per the wishes of Erifail and Alerith, the founders of VR and CT, CT is intended to stand alone and does not take other typings into account.
While signals can be situational, and for that reason we advise posting multiple visuals in several contexts, we find that they are generally universal within a given person. Your functions are unlikely to completely change from one video to the next. That said, you may post a video we find difficult to read, particularly if you post a rehearsed or scripted video.
You are certainly welcome to offer your criticisms. Do keep in mind CT is still in its infancy and many aspects are still being explored and debated. You will find a certain degree of skepticism is the norm here and polite, respectful debate is welcomed. So long as you practice common internet courtesy, you are welcome to cast doubt on as many of the theory's tenets as you would like. Most of us are just in this for fun and will be happy to revisit any interesting or questionable facets of CT you stumble across. What will not be tolerated is rudeness towards other forum members, including your visual readers. You are free to challenge their reads, but please do not personally attack anyone who is trying to help you. We also do not support bashing of any type. One major difference between the CT and MBTI communities is CT does not have a hierarchy of types. We do not believe any type is inherently better than any other and while some are likely less common, we do not have the statistics (or random sample) needed to determine the type breakdown of a general population. We do not link intelligence or thoughtfulness with type and believe anyone, of any CT profile, can be a deep and insightful thinker as there are many routes to truth.
