Inattention (Ne), Impulsiveness (Pe) and Hyperactivity (Se)
Those are the correlations I see with the three AD/HD clusters of symptoms and Jungian functions. Hyperactivity symptoms are associated with diagnoses in children far more than adults but they seem to describe thrill-seekers, athletic and other really physical people a lot. The inattentive type seems to be straight up Ne.
Wondering how many Alphas and Betas or Ne users are suspected of it or diagnosed with it. I know its a sensitive topic and people feel all sorts of ways about it especially because of the "disorder" designation. I think it is a modern "disease" only because modernity is a huge Je (especially Te) super-structure which by definition makes types without reasonably strong Te look disabled.
But I find it a very positive thing because we are not in a hunter-gatherer world anymore and can't go back to it. The label gives people who struggle with certain "normal" things (in this very new and abnormal world) a language and a way to navigate Je superstructures more easily or at least with more mercy/grace extended than they would otherwise. There is also very effective medication for it, which is the other dicey part, morally-speaking.
Dicey because, if they are actually diagnosing Ne, is it right to medicate it away like an illness? My thoughts are that given Ne must navigate modernity like everyone else, and given this new world is biased against its heavy users, why not? If a pill makes dealing with "life" easier, why not take it? It seems to improve life for a lot of people but then, again if inattentive type or ADD is just a medical term for heavy Ne use, what would that positive effect of medication say about it? That Ne is disruptive at best and in general useless and dispensable? The horror! Also, would medicating it curtail development or individuation? If the problem is less chemical and more a balance issue, would medication stunt what the psyche is trying to do (grow up?)
