Hi people!

I've noticed for a little while now that I seemingly read quicker than my boyfriend who is a NiFe. Tonight we finally tested it by reading the same passage on the computer. He is a fast reader himself, but I read almost twice as fast and retained much more information than he did. He thinks this efficiency may have to do with Te. What do you think? Have others with Te here, especially Te-leads or Te-supports, experienced something similar to this?

I use a lot of Te and I read what I would consider to be quite slowly. I think it's just something that comes with experience and practice.(I didn't read much when I was younger and I don't read a lot now).

Similar to these previous 2 posters, I am a Te user. But, I can read fast if I want to. If I'm just reading something I tend to zone out and keep looking through the article without actually comprehending it and have to go back, but if I'm actually engaged in reading something I can get through it pretty quick, I tend not to though. I guess I'd classify myself as a slow reader.

Off of what sitbone said though, Ni/Ses are probably better readers than Si/Nes, irrelevant of their judgement functions.

At least faster than anybody I have encountered.

I'm fairly certain most people can learn to speed read, but speed reading is, by itself, a questionable skill.

In the above posts there's a pattern, although it may not mean anything. Those reporting to be slow readers we mostly PiJe. I'm by no means suggesting this may be true, but perhaps Pi Leads spend more time interpreting information than Je leads in some cases. Of course, experience would play a huge role in this speculation as well.

I'm not a very fast reader. I speculate it is because of my heavy Ne, which is too focused on my environment for me to concentrate on reading (but it could also be because I'm terrible about procrastinating). I love to read, but it takes a very long time for me to get through a book; I always end up making multiple calls to the library in order to have it removed. XD

My NeFi gf and I have similar problems. Her Ne lead means she jumps around on the page (textbooks with colorful sidebars are the worst) and as Ti-then-Ne I get distracted by things the text reminds me of, rereading the same paragraph and all I can think about is how it'd be cool if people could shrink down and study cells in person.
