Are there any little things that you notice yourself doing that may relate to the functions? Not the visual behaviour of functions, but psychological behaviour of functions.
When I'm reading I will notice some words that relate to my interests like "psychology", "philosophy", "intelligence", "intuition", etc. Words like these seem to jump right off the page at me, even if they are paragraphs ahead of where I currently am reading. I think this is Pe and Fi.
I'd like to hear other opinions on this, and things you find yourself doing that may relate to the functions.
Well I have a habit of picking out words in the same way you describe and I don't have Fi, so that's probably more of a Pe thing alone.
Also, when I read something, I notice myself sometimes making faces that correspond to what I'm reading, but they come off (at least to me) as being kind of unnatural and odd. And the faces I make are generally not my own reactions to what I'm reading, but rather the reactions of characters or such. For example, if a character in the book I'm reading is disgusted, then I'll kind of make a disgusted face, but I generally remain impassive if I'm legitimately disgusted while a character is not. Likewise, if a character is described to smile, then I am pretty likely to smile (at least a very small smile).
Thinking about it now, I realize a lot of my bearing/body language is altered a lot by what I'm reading at the time. If I'm at a point where the characters are tense and someone comes up and tries to talk to me, then I'm more likely to be tense and snappy whereas I'll be more polite and such if the characters/action of what I'm reading are in a similar state.
If I had to put a function on it, I'd say that's probably an Ne/Fe combination. Fe relates to the characters as other people and, in conjunction with imaginative Ne, puts me in their shoes which makes it hard to divorce a concept of myself from the concept of the characters.
If someone has bad grammar or misspells a word, I always notice and have an impulse to correct them =P (Ti linguistic perfectionism).
I say "Actually" a lot. My coworkers have turned this into a running joke (Ti specification).
I tend not to follow rules, or at least be reluctant to do so, unless they are logical in a real-world sense (Ne creativity/independence & Ti subjective logic).
Insincerity and shallowness also bother me (Fe). I don't usually say "Hello", "Please", "Bless you" (when someone sneezes), or other pre-programmed social catch-phrases that don't have a true meaning.

As for your example, it does sound like it could be related to Fi's framework of personal ethics and affinities. However, it could equally be something like Si associating with something familiar. Or.. it could be a combination of both these functions in the case of say, an NeFi. A lot of different functions can cause some of the same habits, that's the problem with trying to gauge type by behavior traits.
It may help put your behavior in perspective if I knew your functions. Do you have an idea of what they are?
Alerith I'm not sure about my functions, but I think they are Ni/Se and Fi/Te. Also, I believe I am a P-lead. Going into further detail of the example: I usually notice it, continue reading for a few seconds, then think "Did I just see 'word'?". I then try to locate the word. This to me seems like lower Pe (Se in this case) because I just barely notice it, although I'm not sure.
